Just off the A12 in the village of Boreham, on the outskirts of the City of Chelmsford you can find two very different wedding venues down the very same road.

The oldest would be The Lion Inn, formerly known as the Red Lion for centuries. Originally it was a farmhouse built way back in 1495, then a farmer and hop grower splendidly named Septimus Mallet bought it in 1578 and turned into into an alehouse.
I am also quite fond of the name of the innkeeper in 1706, Cedric Mimsey.

These days The Lion Inn is a very popular restaurant and hotel, and alongside it is The Lion House, the wedding venue.
It is a unique venue for Essex, not a barn or stately home, designed in an art deco style making wonderful use of natural light…something photographers and videographers really appreciate.

And importantly, staff who really care, who remember. The wedding coordinators really look after their couples, guests and the wedding suppliers. Handling every detail, helping out with anything that can arise on a wedding day, and making sure everything runs smoothly.
