James & Charlotte: A Petersham Garden Wedding
Charlotte’s family came over from the US and spent the week at this Airbnb in Richmond, holiday accommodation, and the base for all the bridal preparations.
Just a short journey away is St. Peter’s Church in Petersham. I loved how it was down this narrow lane, leading to the Capital Ring Walk, with so many people and families walking past and offering congratulations, before heading on to either Petersham Nurseries or further on to the beautiful meadows and then the River Thames.
It’s a small church with a tiny aisle and box pews; everyone gathered around, watching the ceremony in the middle. I thought this was just perfect for the kind of wedding day Charlotte and James had, as the reception was at James’ family home—in the garden, with beautiful poems on every wedding breakfast table and so many personal touches.
The corgi kept escaping the house to try and join in with the wedding! Surprisingly, this is the second wedding this year where this exact thing has happened: a garden wedding, a corgi escaping the house.
As I left to travel home to Essex, they were still dancing the night away on the patio to the New Orleans-style rhythm ‘n’ blues sounds of The Cosimo Matassa Project.
