Registry office weddings London – confetti thrown at bride and groom outside Islington Town Hall.

Naz + Adam: Islington Town Hall + The Rosemary Branch

Tuesday. Lunchtime. March sunshine streaming through Islington Town Hall’s windows. While people on their lunch break eat sat on the benches outside, the wedding guests arrive first, followed by the bride and groom, and their little dog wearing a black tulle ruff.

The ceremony relaxed and was emotional, plenty of tissues required, with family, friends, and their dog witnessing the vows in the council chambers (I do love a pet-friendly registry office).

Then it was off to their local, The Rosemary Branch, for drinks, canapés, and conversations. During their speech, the newlyweds had some particularly lovely news to share with everyone.
Bluest of skies and widest smiles all day, for this very elegant weekday spring wedding.

The Rosemary Branch

I am curious about everything, so get a little distracted researching every place where I photograph a wedding. I could go on for ages about what I find out, but will share a few things.

Naz and Adam were married during Islington Town Hall’s centenary year. The northern wing on Upper Street, where the well-known steps lead to the entrance, was completed in 1925. In the confetti photos, you can spot the Roman numerals MCMXXV carved above the door.
It was designed by E.C.P. Monson, who played an important part in the development of social housing in the early 20th century.
The Islington Assembly Hall is next door. I’m a frequent visitor here too, as a live music fan!

The Rosemary Branch in Islington is a pub theatre these days, putting on such a variety of events.. but the history goes back as far as the 16th century when it was an alehouse.
It’s name comes from the sprig of rosemary worn in the hats of the Levellers (the original ones, not the band) who used to meet there back in the 17th century.
There was a lot more land there in the past, I particularly like this picture from the 19th century –
